Comedian Niecy Nash of Dancing with the Stars and Reno 911! fame recently shed off approximately 50 pounds. While the actress is adamant about liking her curvy frame and not wanting to lose any weight, she did admit to struggling to lose 50 pounds about five years ago.

Her 50-pound weight loss brought the star from a size 14 down to a size 6. But how in the world did she do it? Did she starve herself? Absolutely not.

According to Life & Style Magazine, Nash accomplished this astounding loss by “controlling portions on a 1,200-calorie-per-day diet.” Nash herself says, “I didn’t have a traditional workout plan. I have three children, so I couldn’t work two full-time jobs, then come home and go to the gym for two hours.

I ate sensibly and would hula-hoop when I watched TV with my kids.” Hula-hooping? Not a bad idea! She would also take her children skating, bike riding, and put on dance contests with her family.

Nash is now hovering between a size 8 and 10, and she treats herself with indulgences every once in a while, especially since she has been on Dancing with the Stars. She says, “All this dancing and running around—I deserve a cookie. If I ever feel I’m getting too big for my own comfort level, I go back to counting calories.”

I think that’s amazing. Why is it so hard for us, as women, to create our own ideas of how large or small we should be instead of relying on what the media and fashion magazines tell us? I applaud you, Niecy, for staying true to yourself and embracing your body.
