Lisa Edelstein, 44, of House fame doesn’t give in to bizarre Hollywood dieting trends. She already has her own ideas and principles as to what equals healthy eating. As she puts it: “I don’t eat for entertainment!”
She must be doing something right. The actress has a killer body and a clear complexion that’s never seen a Botox injection. Recently, she opened about her diet to Prevention.
According to the interview, Lisa became a vegetarian at the young age of 15. She says, “I was never a big meat eater—I was always picky. I was raised in a kosher home, and if you’re raised with a food restriction, it’s not that difficult to have another kind of food restriction.” Makes sense to me.
I, personally, was raised on meat, so it would be torture for me to adopt Lisa’s vegetarian lifestyle.
Why did the actress turn veggie? Because of a dream. In the dream, Lisa’s chowing down on some chicken, and her “brain was connecting muscle and bone to another animal. Once I made that connection, it just wasn’t something I wanted to eat.”
The devoted vegetarian loves vegetables—duh! Her favorites include string beans, Brussels sprouts (ew!), broccoli, and more. Lisa even went as far as to share the recipe of her lemongrass soup with the folks at Prevention. Check out the recipe here. She says that the soup is one of her favorite things to make. “It’s wonderful, like vegetarian chicken soup—really good when you don’t feel well,” she says.
So, she’s got the diet and healthy eating thing down. But what about exercise? “I’ve been doing Mysore style Ashtanga yoga for 14 years,” she reports. “I like it because it’s self-practice—everyone’s doing the practice they’ve learned. The teacher only gives you another pose because you’re ready for it.”
Looks like I have another type of yoga to check out!
