Working out is hard work. It’s not something that I particularly enjoy, but it’s something I do because I understand that my body needs it. But what irks me even more than exercise itself is drinking a high-calorie sports drink or energy drink afterward. When I do this, I feel as though I’ve completely canceled out all of the hard work I just did on the treadmill.

So, as you can understand, I’m always on the lookout for low-calorie, refreshing drinks that actually taste good. (If I’m going to waste my calories on something, I’d rather I splurge on ice cream than a sports drink—know what I mean?)

I was stoked when I heard of HINT, the brainchild of former AOL executive Kara Goldin.

HINT is water that’s been given an extra oomph with all-natural flavors. And the best part? Zero calories. HINT contains no sweeteners and no preservatives—just pure water with all-natural flavor. But could something so good for you actually taste good? That test had yet to be met.

HINT comes in ten different flavors—some traditional (such as Watermelon) and some more unique (such as Honeydew Hibiscus). I received five samples of HINT (count ‘em—five!) in Blackberry, Mango-Grapefruit, Pomegranate-Tangerine, Raspberry-Lime, Watermelon, and Strawberry Kiwi.

I have to be honest with you…I wasn’t looking forward to trying HINT. I’m not a huge water-lover. In fact, I’m something of a soda-junkie, so the thought of downing flavored water didn’t appeal to me. I just didn’t think there would enough flavor.

Man, was I wrong. After throwing the bottles (don’t worry—they were plastic, so they didn’t break) in the fridge overnight, I cracked open one after my workout the following morning and chugged. And was pleasantly surprised. There was a ridiculous amount of flavor, but it wasn’t overwhelming. HINT takes water and spices it up with a flavor that’s incredibly subtle but extremely present.

My favorite flavors were Raspberry-Lime and Pomegranate-Tangerine, which both came as a surprise to me. I’m usually not crazy about different fruit combinations, but these two worked so well that I fell in love.

You can count on one thing from me here on out: no more sodas or sports drinks for me. I’ll be sticking to HINT after my workouts (and in between them, too!).
